n 1993,two10-year-old
British boys, Jon Venables
and Robert Thompson,
caused shockwaves around
the world when they snatched
little blond, blue-eyed James
Bulger, who was just two,
from a shopping centre and
tortured, sexually assaulted
and murdered him.
It was an act so evil
committed by two children
considered so depraved that
they were jailed for life after
being tried as adults and

officiallybecominginfamous
as Britain’s youngest convicted
murderers in 250 years. Yet
they were released on licence
in 2001 and granted lifelong
anonymity and new identities.

BACK TO JAIL
The decision outraged the
British public and parents
around the world, but the
protests fell on deaf ears and
the two young monsters were
given a chance at rehabilitation
and a new start in life.

Thompsonhasnot
been heard of since his
release, but Venables,
who is now aged 36,
was sent back to jail
for another two years
in 2010 when he
was found to be in
possession of more
than 1000 sickening
pornographic images
of children.

Parents rage over ‘disgusting’ film


James Bulger’s parents had their marriage and
family destroyed when their little boy was
ripped out of their lives, yet they were forced to
relive the horror all over again earlier this
year when a film about the shocking murder
was nominated for an Oscar.
His father Ralph said “Hollywood should
hang its head in shame” over nominating
short drama Detainment, which portrays
James’ killers in a sympathetic light.
“There are some things that should be off
limits and the murder of a baby is one of
them,” denounced Ralph, who split from
James’ mum Denise Fergus because they
were both so consumed with grief they were

unable to comforteachotheraftertheterrible
crime. “To Hollywoodit is justanotherfilm.But
to me and myfamilyit is a livingnightmare.”

Ralph is “outraged”
by the shortfilm.

Denise says she thinks
of her son every day.
