Close to the former headquarters airfield of
the Air Transport Auxiliary at White Waltham, a
permanent exhibition here – entitled ‘Grandma
Flew Spitfires’ – salutes this remarkable
organisation. There is a Spitfire simulator among
the exhibits.

The culmination of many years of effort, this
museum and learning centre opened in October
2017 and focuses on Bristol’s outstanding
involvement in the aviation industry. Established
under the auspices of the Bristol Aero Collection
Trust, it is based at the old Filton factory airfield.

THE TRENCHARD MUSEUM
Named after Lord Trenchard, founder of the
RAF apprentice scheme with which Halton, near

Aylesbury, is best associated, this museum aims
to preserve the station’s history. The James
McCudden Flight Heritage Centre and associated
events seek to encourage interest in flying and
aero-engineering among the young.
