88 CAMPER&BUS
sale. We always have a number of things for sale,
but it’s best to look on the website to see what’s
currently in stock. At the minute there are five Bays
you can buy, the candy red Split and two Beetles.
Have you noticed any changes in the scene or
people’s interests?
Yes. We’re doing a lot more Type 25s and T4s now.
We’re still predominantly air-cooled, but more and
more people are having work done on the later
stuff. I think customers are more interested in
having something they can jump in and use rather
than driving something that’s silly-low and scrapes
everywhere they go. We can do both, but we try to
encourage people to look after what they have and
build something that looks cool but will last.
Do you think there’s a move away from patina?
Real patina has its place, and we’ve built a number
of preserved OG VWs, but we’re not into the fake
or forced patina stuff. We love restos here and that’s
what we do on a day-to-day basis.
You do a lot more besides restos though.
Oh definitely. We’re always pretty much fully
booked up with restorations, but MoT work, service
and general repairs are also our bread and butter.
We also do a lot of upgrades, such as wiring for
electrical hook-ups and leisure batteries.
And vehicle storage.
We also store cars year round for customers and
look after and service them so they’re ready for
the year ahead. A lot of our customers are repeat
business. They come back to us because we look
after them properly, and their vehicles.

If we don’t have what you want in stock we can
always find it and then build it to be exactly what
you want. We have a number of contacts abroad
who we buy our projects from. If you can’t live with
left-hand drive we can turn your original and solid
import into a right-hooker. Whatever the customer
needs, it’s about building the right Bus for them.
Are customers welcome to pop in?
Oh yes. It’s nice to have some warning as the
workshop is always busy - which was another
reason to have the clean/quiet showroom - and
we encourage customers to come in and see what
we’re doing to their projects. We’re also planning
an open day in the Autumn and we’ll be posting
details on our Facebook page once we’ve set the
date in stone. It would be great to see you there.
