Tourism Australia has announced
an Australian fi rst — Opera
Australia will be performing
a concert in Uluru-Kata Tjuta
National Park with Bruce Munro’s
Field of Light Uluru as the
backdrop. As the sun sets over
the Red Centre, Opera Australia’s
fi nest singers will perform a program including arias
from Bizet, Puccini, Rossini and Verdi, accompanied by
a chamber orchestra and conducted by Tahu Matheson.

Opera at
Jimbour
Opera Queensland
hits the road in
July for what has
become a hugely
popular paddock
event in the grounds
of historic Jimbour
homestead between Dalby
and Chinchilla on the Darling
Downs. Gates open at 10am for the 2pm
performance and the event is free, but patrons should
book tickets via the website. The biennial celebration is
part of the Queensland Music Festival, which brings a
range of quality musical performances to audiences in
various parts of the state, from the Gold Coast to Thursday

September 27-October 5 (NORFOLK ISLAND)
Red Hatters Gathering
This one requires a wardrobe check. The Red Hatters
are women aged 50-plus, who meet and travel in the
name of fun. They wear red hats and purple attire
and the more frivolous, the better. Ladies looking for
a hilarious time can enjoy the world of Norfolk Island
and participate in a week of planned activities that will
include lots of bubbles, laughter and fun to celebrate
the 11th-anniversary event. Women younger than 50
are also welcome, but they must possess a fun-loving
streak, don pink hats and wear lavender or lilac attire.
The Norfolk Island Travel Centre is off ering packages
for Red Hatters wanting to take part in this fabulous
week. Hosts will be the Norfolk Island Red Hatter
Chapter with Queen Her Royal Highness Queenalee
Rosalie and her Bounty Babes.

town of Tara, population 1000, in
Queensland’s Western Downs
for the annual Tara Festival of
