The week’s best live action

Love Island UK,
Wednesday.
NETBALL
Ladder leaders Central Pulse might have had a round-13
shocker against the bottom-placed Northern Mystics, but
they’re still the ones to beat in the grand final of the ANZ
Premiership. Their opponent will be decided on May 29,
when Southern Steel host Northern Stars in Invercargill – a
tough ask for the Stars, then. The grand final is on Queen’s
Birthday (Sky Sport 1, 3.30pm).

useful watching with her
teenage daughters because
she can point out when
behaviour such as gaslight-
ing is occurring. “My girls are
almost taking it all down on a
notepad,” she told the Guard-
ian. Season five comes to us
hot off the press from the UK;
it is hosted by Caroline Flack
and narrated by comedian
Iain Stirling, who can be seen
on TVNZ Duke’s Task master
(Thursday, 8.30pm). But wait,
there’s more Love Island: Three
is screening Australian, Ameri-
can and local versions later
this year.

THURSDAY JUNE 6
Doctor Doctor (TVNZ 1,
8.30pm). In the open-
ing episode of season
three, Rodger Corser’s
Dr Hugh Knight
is granted an early
reprieve from his year of
penance in Whyhope, so
of course he skedaddles
back to the city as fast as
his arrogant yet brilliant
(all TV surgeons are arro-
gant yet brilliant) legs will
carry him. Just kidding

  • of course he’s going

to stay. A death in the family
throws all sorts of spanners
into the works. The soapy,
gentle drama has been a hit in
Oz and has been renewed for
another season.

FRIDAY JUNE 7
7 Days: Winter Road Trip (Three,
9.05pm). 7 Days is taking its
jolly japes on tour: this week,
it’s the lovely Regent Theatre
in Palmerston North, which
opened in 1930 and was reno-
vated in the 90s. The other
stops are Blenheim and the
Queenstown Winter Festival.

7 Days: Winter Road
Tri p, Friday.

CRICKET
The quadrennial cricketpalooza that is the ICC Cricket
World Cup has begun. It’s slightly unfortunate that it’s
completely the opposite time zone, but that means there
could be some breakfast thrillers. The Black Caps’ first
game in the group stage is on Saturday against Sri Lanka
at the lovely Sophia Gardens in Cardiff (Sky Sport 2,
9.00pm). Their next game this week is against Bangladesh
at the Oval in London (Sky Sport 2 and Prime, Wednesday,
12 .0 0 am). Naturally, there is a ton of coverage, including
highlights morning and evening on Prime, which also
has a World Cup Review show hosted by Eric Young and
Frances Mackay. See our schedules for the full coverage.

SOCCER
The UEFA Champions League final is an all-England affair,
although fans will have had to travel to Madrid to see Tot-
tenham battle Liverpool (Sky Sport 1, Sunday, 6.50am).

Fletcher Smith of
the Hurricanes.

RUGBY
Bula Fiji! The Chiefs make a fourth visit
to Suva for a round 16 Super Rugby
match against the Crusaders (Sky Sport
1, Saturday, 7.00pm). In other Super
Rugby games, the Sharks and the Hur-
ricanes go at it in Durban (Sky Sport 1,
Sunday, 1.00am), the Reds and the Jag-
uares battle it out in Brisbane (Sky Sport
1, Saturday, 9.40pm), and the Lions and
