“See what
you can
achieve
when you
really push
yourself”
IF YOU’RE A regular at TrainYas, then you
might be starting to think that cycling around
the 5.5km track at Yas Marina Circuit is
a bit of a doddle.
By now you’ve probably completed more
laps of the iconic track more times than you
care to imagine, and you’re perhaps feeling
ready for a different kind of challenge.
If that sounds like you, or if you’re just
generally always up for a new type of Àtness
test, then you need to read on because
there’s an event coming up perfect for you.
The Ramadan Cycle Race is returning to Yas
Island on May 12, and it’s not exactly a gentle
trundle around on a bike.
This knockout-style race is serious
business. Participants are given a certain
amount of time in which to complete each
lap of the circuit, and with every loop around
the iconic track, the time gets shorter and
shorter. If you end up Ànishing outside of the
allotted time, then you’re eliminated from the
competition. Game over. We know, it sounds
pretty tough.
The race is made up of eight laps, but the
time trial rules only count for the Àrst six. If
you’re still in the race after that, then the last
two laps are ‘free’, meaning it’s a pure sprint
to the Ànish.
Throughout the event, cars will also be
circling the track to help you to set your
pace. So you know if you Ànish more than 30
seconds after the car in front of you, then it’s
pretty much game over.
We think the race sounds like a great way of
seeing what you can achieve when you really
push yourself, not to mention it’ll be a great
way to keep Àtness levels up during Ramadan
(when we can all get a little gym-phobic).
Racing under the bright lights of Yas Marina
Circuit is also bound to get your adrenaline
pumping and give you an unreal kind of buzz.
As well as the Ramadan Cycle Race,
TrainYas is still running as normal from 6pm
to 8pm, so you can even use that as your
warm-up before the race gets underway
at 9pm.
You’ll also need to check in and get your
bib, bike plate and timing chip before 8.30pm.
Entry for the knockout sprint costs Dhs55
per person, and there will also be awards for
different age group categories.
So why not give it a go? Even if you don’t
make it through to the Ànal laps, it’s still going
to be an amazing experience.
O Dhs55. May 12, from 9pm (TrainYas 6pm-8pm).
