THE CRUISER

A

s 4WDers, it’s pretty
common for us to
have one vehicle
that will do
everything – from
the daily drive in town right
through to getting us out bush to
tackle tough tracks on the
weekend. For a very long time
that was me with the 60. It was
my only 4WD and it went
everywhere I did. Then when I

chopped her into a ute and
started taking her on every
single DVD trip, the mileage
really started to catch up. Doing
17 hard trips a year would
destroy any vehicle no matter
what it is, and the 30 was
literally falling apart by end.
Then the 79 came along which
is an absolute dream to drive.
Even though it
can do

them, it’s not an A-grade track
4WD, so I didn’t want to wreck it.
So that’s why I got the 80 which
is just an absolute beast. I never
thought I would own more than
one 4WD but now I’m super lucky
to have two working ones while I
rebuild the 30, and rebuild it
properly. And when she is
eventually back on the tracks,
hopefully she will last a bit
longer because the 79 and the

80 can keep a bit of the pressure
off. I have tried to set it up so
that the 79 is built for the big
trips, towing the boat and also
the daily drive around town, the
80 is made for glasshouse and
Coffs, and the 30 is the tractor
that will do anything. She’s the
one you send down that
overgrown muddy track fi rst to
lead the way.
I’m keen to hear your
thoughts on what I should do to
the 30. I reckon I’ll keep the 12HT
as I don’t reckon you can get a
more reliable old diesel than one
of them. Plus it was rebuilt not
long ago too. I’m looking into
maybe a new tray and a different
suspension setup for her too...
Let me know what you
reckon eh? I’d love to hear
from you, email me at
[email protected]

Cheers,

ADMIRAL SHAUNO
