PIE BLOCKS
1
To make a pie block, choose two
print fabrics from your assortment
- one for the pie dish and the other for
the pie crust. You will also need the
taupe print fabric for the background.
2
From the print fabric for the pie
dish, cut:
- Six rectangles, 1^11 ⁄ 2 x 2in.
3
From the print fabric for the pie
crust, cut:
- 10 squares, 1in
- One rectangle, 2 x 6^1 ⁄ 2 in.
4
From the taupe print fabric, cut:
- Four squares, 2in.
5
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong
side of all the 1in squares of pie crust
fabric. Match one of these squares, right
sides together, on each of two 1^1 ⁄ 2 x 2in
rectangles of dish fabric, as shown in
Diagram 1. Sew on the lines, trim the
corners^1 ⁄ 4 in outside the stitching, turn
the triangles over and press.
6
With the remaining four pie dish
rectangles, repeat Step 5, then
sew, trim and press a second 1in
square on the other top corner, as
shown in Diagram 2.
7
Sew all the shapes from Steps 5
and 6 together, side by side with
the Step 5 units at each end. Then
join the 2 x 6^1 ⁄ 2 in rectangle of pie
crust fabric to the top edge of this
unit, as shown in Diagram 3.
8
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong
side of all of the 2in squares of
taupe print fabric. Match these
squares with the four corners of your
pie unit, as shown in the Pie Block
Layout Diagram. Sew on the lines,
trim the corners, and press. Your Pie
Block should measure 3^1 ⁄ 2 x6^1 ⁄ 2 in from
raw edge to raw edge.
9
Repeat Steps 1-8 to make a total
of six Pie blocks for Border 4.
Stephanie made two blocks from
each of three different pie dish
fabrics. She used the same white
print fabric for all the pie crusts.
