President Tr u m p would be invited. And I’m
excited to meet the new editor, Radhika Jones.
The funniest thing that happened to me on
Oscar night was when I was wearing turquoise
Monique Lhuillier on the red carpet and the
paparazzi were screaming, “Irena! Irena!” like they
were on speed. And Mike said, “Wow, you look
amazing.” I said, “Keep walking. It can’t be for me.”
And Mike said, “Who else can it be for?” I said, “If
you stop, I will kill you.” Five seconds later, the most
gorgeous woman in the world, Irina Shayk, walks
by in a black stop-your-heart see-through dress.
We burst into laughter.
The one party I cannot wait to attend this year is
Diane von Furstenberg’s luncheon to honor female
nominees. From Greta Gerwig to
Rachel Morrison to Dee Rees,
there are so many firsts
to be celebrated. And
I love Laura Dern’s
involvement in the
Academy. I am feel-
ing The Dern! The
Academy should be
proud of all the change
that has happened
this year — it’s a historic
moment for our town.

Museum, where
I serve on the board.
Anna Wintour and
I co-hosted the lunch,
then the next year
we started doing it
at my house.
This year, I’m
hosting it with
Salma Hayek, and we
will have a lot to talk
about. For 40-plus
years, I’ve talked
about giving women
confidence. I’m a
feminist. Have I had
bad experiences with
men? Who hasn’t?
I had three bosses
before I started my
own company, and
they all harassed me.
I took it for granted
that you got groped.
But women are
unleashed now. I
see young girls, my
granddaughters, and
they are not taking

that shit. A lot of
men, including my
husband, say, “Oh,
but men won’t be
able to flirt.” But it’s
very different flirting
and being treated
as a piece of meat.
That’s an abuse of
power. Men in
Hollywood are scared
shitless. And in fash-
ion — Mario Testino
and Terry Richardson,
they deserve what
they are getting.
Truthfully, this has
been going on since
eternity, and at least
we are finally talking
about it. The way for-
ward for me is about
leadership but also
legacy because I’m 71,
and I won’t be here
forever. And making
women feel confident
is my biggest achieve-
ment in life.
