Antonio Banderas portrays
Picasso from his 40s until
his death in 1973, aged 91
artists of the 20th century. Banderas has no
qualms in voicing just how important (and
terrifying) nailing his latest performance was.
The chameleon-like star reveals that also
weighing on him was the fact both Picasso
and he are from the same town of Málaga,
in the Mediterranean coastal area of southern
Spain. It meant that signing on for the job
was a dream come true because it’s one
he felt a personal connection to.

cap, the good looks of much-loved
actor Antonio Banderas have been
completely disguised in his latest role.
But the Spanish A-lister says physically
transforming into Pablo Picasso was essential
to portray the iconic artist convincingly in the
second instalment of Genius. The 10-episode
scripted drama returns to screens this month
with a double episode debut.
“I actually love it!” he laughs when asked
about his makeover for the part. “I couldn’t
believe it when they said I had to remove my
eyebrows. I loved the excuse to do something
like this. If I did this in my own life people
would say, ‘Antonio has gone a bit cuckoo!’
I looked diferent and people didn’t recognise
me much. It was fabulous.”
