—— Red Army Sniper ——

170

Returning to the regiment, Ivan Dobrik and I told the troops
what we had seen and heard at the Kirov works. Our comrades
listened to us without interrupting. Shaken by what they had heard,
they swore to destroy even more Nazis. They promised to exact
vengeance on the hated invaders on behalf of the mutilated city of
Leningrad, its brave residents, children and old men, and its heroic
working class. Our snipers pledged themselves to improving their
battle expertise, to multiply their ranks on a daily basis by training
others in the sniper’s art, and to increase their own personal score
in the extermination of the Nazi scum.
