WHAT ARE THE PEOPLE LIKE?
“It’s a great mix of people,” says Libby. “There’s the older generation,
who have watched the suburb change significantly but can still enjoy
walking their dogs – without leads – around the streets, to the young
families and cool hipsters moving in.” Which is something the latter
seem to be doing in droves. The current median age of residents is
just 32, and renters outnumber owners at 54 per cent. And more
people are paying attention to the Cooks Hill property pages, with
visits to open houses on the rise. “There’s now a diversity of buyers
including singles, couples and investors purchasing apartments and
smaller terraces, to families acquiring original and renovated homes”
Mike says. With properties still available from around $400,000, this
is still one of the most cost-effective, culture-based suburbs in the
country. “It is relatively affordable and offers such a great, relaxed
lifestyle,” says Libby. “Most people who live in this area really value
the character and have a strong sense of community.” R
