the [vehicular] age scale were the Auckland-
based team of Scott Campbell, Andrew Gate, and
Brian Matthews, who collectively own Port Road
icon ‘Tom Slick’. The ancient Model T made its way
through the rounds only to get taken out in the
semi-finals, but the guys couldn’t care less — they
were just stoked to be a part of it.
While the winners may have got trophies for their
efforts, the others didn’t go home empty-handed,
because being able to race in such an iconic event is
really reward enough.
Although from a spectator point of view, things went
smoothly, Cam County members have admitted
that, behind the scenes, a few things didn’t run to
plan, resulting in a bit of a hiccup come prize-giving.
They are a team that pride themselves on getting it
right and have vowed to make sure the drags run
even more smoothly next year. However, we believe
they are being a bit hard on themselves. In our
minds, the event was excellent, so a massive round
of applause must go out to Cam County for putting
on the show, as well as to BurgerFuel and all the
sponsors for supporting it. We know we’ll be back
next year to do it all over again.
