SMOKE ON THE WATER

I

t’s what might just be New Zealand’s most
action-packed motorsport event, and it’s
back for 2018 — we’re talking about the
New Zealand Jetsprint Championship, returning
to ASB Baypark in Mount Maunganui on Saturday,
January 27, following a two-year hiatus. There
is nothing quite like this event, which gives
spectators covered stadium seating and up-close
viewing of the purpose-built aqua track in the
centre of the stadium — and the noise is just
something else!

Watch as three classes of jetsprint boats battle
it out for the Enzed 2018 Jetsprints Stadium
Cup — that’s 30 crazily overpowered boats being
pushed to the limit, promising an evening of
non-stop thrills and spills!
As you can imagine, this event has almost sold
out in previous years, drawing crowds of more
than 15,000, so you’ll want to get in quick —
find out more at jetsprintbop.com, and visit
eventfinda.co.nz today for pricing information
and to secure your ticket!

ell, it’s finally official: Kiwi lad Richie Stanaway
is now part of the Virgin Australia Supercars
Championship, having signed a multi-year deal with
Prodrive Racing Australia.
Following his success with the team in 2017, winning
the opening leg of the Pirtek Enduro Cup at the
Wilson Security Sandown 500 and placing third
overall, the 26-year-old will join Prodrive’s four-car
squad for the 2018 series, piloting the number 56
Prodrive Ford Falcon FG X race car.
After a dominating debut in the Toyota Racing Series,

Stanaway progressed to the German ADAC Formel
Masters, moving up the various classes. He then
secured drives with Porsche and Aston Martin, with
a pole finish in the GTE Pro class at the 24 Hours of
Le Mans in 2015.
Stanaway recently relocated from Europe back to
New Zealand, clearly in pursuit of the long-term
Supercars contract he now has. He will make his
official competition debut in his new car at the
Adelaide 500, which runs over March 1–4 and marks
the opening of the 2018 Supercars season.

SUMMER

COVER

W

ith warmer weather upon us and the
summer events calendar in full swing,
car enthusiasts around the country are getting
into gear. So, whether you’re taking your classic
cruiser out every sunny day, or your tubbed and
blown weapon out once in a blue moon, no
time is better to ensure you’re covered.
Being classic car owners too, Protecta
Insurance understands that such vehicles are
both a financial investment and a treasure,
and they’ve designed their policies with that
in mind.
The Agreed Value policy treats every vehicle
individually, taking into account its heritage,
pedigree, and condition, allowing you the
freedom to provide evidence of condition and
value at the onset of the policy.
And, whether it’s an overheated engine, a
flat battery, or you’ve simply locked yourself
out, Roadside Assistance takes away the
uncertainty if the worst should happen.
As people with the same passion as us, Protecta
understands the importance of proper repairs,
too. That’s why its policies offer additional
benefits, such as letting you choose your own
repairer, cover for spare parts, and first right to
retain your vehicle in a total loss situation.
Catch Protecta at the next car show you
attend, give the team a call on 0508 252 7742,

MUSCLE!

B

y the time you read this, Teng Tools Muscle
Garage will have knocked off temporarily, with
the final episode of the first season pushed back
to Sunday, January 7 — that means you should
be back from your summer holiday in time to
catch it!
That episode will cover the wild Boss-powered
Galaxie from the cover of our previous issue, as
well as the Stragglers Cambridge Charity Car Show
and a look inside the workshop of Real Rides Ltd.
However, you won’t have to wait too long for
more V8-powered goodness. Season two of
the programme is already confirmed and in the
works. It will screen from Sunday, February 18,
and we’ll provide an episode schedule once it
becomes known.
It’s not easy to produce sponsor-funded television
in little old New Zealand, and this show simply
wouldn’t exist without the support of our friends
at Teng Tools, Meguiar’s, needacar.co.nz, and
Mount Shop, so, if you see them out and about
at an event near you over summer, make sure to
throw them a big thanks!
