p in the hills just out of Waihi, Aaron Clothier
has been busy building his wild ‘Midnight
Moonshine Hauler’ Chev pickup. The gasser
project was started by Kelly Whitaker and was
set up with the nose-in-the-air stance that
Aaron loved, so, when it came up for sale, Aaron
grabbed it with both hands. Since then, Aaron has
been busy crafting new floors, tray, rear guards,
etc. and is working on the front sheet metal with
the hope of getting the pickup back on the street
very soon.
When it came to the engine for the ’36, Aaron
went to the home of Moonshine, purchasing
a Dart Super Stroker 383 from Skip White inTennessee. It has been dynoed at an impressive
560hp — and, if that isn’t enough, the engine is
also nitrous ready!
The transbraked Powerglide with 3600rpm stall
should ensure a hard hit to the nine-inch rear, and
Aaron is expecting wheels-up launches from his

at Shores NZ have been building a very serious
’65 Impala for a customer, and it is about ready to go for
panel beating.
The owner has had the New Zealand–new, right-hand-
drive convertible for quite some time and recently made
the call to go for more power. Of course, with the car
being a convertible, it wasn’t long before the stock
chassis found its days numbered, to be replaced with a
very trick Art Morrison item. Made with thicker-wall steel
and a few more cross members for extra strength, the
chassis features an Art Morrison independent rear with
Corvette C6 A-arm front suspension.
The new chassis also required a new floorpan and boot
floor, and these have been worked into the car, which
will be powered by a GM ZZ572 big block crate engine,
backed by a 4L80E four-speed automatic. With Wilwood
brakes all around and a hydroboost set-up, the Impala’s
sure to drive as good as it’s going to look, and we’re very
