BLACK SWAMP ROD RUN
One of the best events of summer is coming right up. The Black Swamp Rod Run, supported by
Protecta Insurance, boasted around 180 cars last year. The 2018 run will kick off at Mangawhai Domain
on January 6, with a briefing at 10am and cruise departure at 10.45am. The cars will head north along the
stunning coastal highway through Langs Beach and Waipu Cove, looping around Waipu township, before
following the same route back to Mangawhai, where they will park up at the picturesque Olive Grove — a
private property opened up for the cruise. There, participants will be able to enjoy live music and a laid-
back picnic — bring your own food or buy some from the on-site vendors — in the relaxed atmosphere.
The Black Swamp Rod Run isn’t open only to hot rods — anyone with a classic or modern classic can
turn up on the morning and register.

AEROFLOW OUTLAW NITRO FUNNY CARS
The date is drawing nearer to what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting drag racing events ever
to be held in New Zealand. Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars (AONFC) is coming, and it’s packing heat,
with eight radical nitro funny cars and one wheel stander to make up the numbers. So far, confirmed
cars include Kiwi lad Morice McMillin in the ‘One Bad Kiwi’ Pontiac Trans Am, Josh Leahy in ‘The Bandit’
— the world’s meanest Smokey and the Bandit tribute — Justin Walshe in ‘The Terminator’ Camaro,
Dan Donnelly in ‘The Avenger’, as well as ‘The Rocket Ship’ ’57 Chev wheelstander.
The meeting will be held to the traditional AONFC schedule, comprising a three-round format in which all
cars come out for all rounds, giving the crowds the biggest show possible.

MORRINSVILLE MOTORAMA
The annual Morrinsville Motorama returns for 2018, sponsored by Fairview Ford and Mazda and run by
Yankee Haulers Inc. The event will be held over the weekend of February 10–11.
Saturday will see a show and shine from 11am on Moorhouse Street, followed by a mystery cruise, and
then a drive-in movie from 6 to 9pm at the Morrinsville Recreation Ground on Avenue Road — at a cost of
just $25 per car.
Sunday’s activities will take place at the Avenue Road venue and will include the Gasoline Haven
automotive swap meet, a massive car show, the Miss Retro Motorama competition, trade stalls, and
entertainment. Admission will be just $5 per person, with vehicle entry $5 for show cars, and public
parking available for $10.

REBEL ROUND UP
The awesome Rebel Round Up is undergoing a change of venue, with the 2018 event to be held at
Pukekohe Park over the weekend of February 17–18.
While the venue may be changing, the formula will remain the same — focused on all things rockabilly
and vintage, including the Classic Cover Primer Nationals, drop-flag drag racing, a massive classic car and
hot rod show, a vintage market, pin-up competitions, an enormous swap meet, on-site camping, and a
whole lot more.

BAY RODDERS NOSTALGIA DRAGS 2018
One of the country’s coolest annual drag meets is set to go down at Meremere Dragway on March 31 —
the Saturday of Easter weekend. The 2018 Nostalgia Drags, organized by Bay Rodders, is something you’re
definitely gonna want to lock in — and don’t worry, it’s not going to clash with Beach Hop!
Dedicated to old school, Nostalgia Drags includes all the on-track action and pit-lane glory that you could
hope for, with a racing schedule that includes front-engine-dragster, pre-’49 hot rod, pre-’72 American,
gasser, flathead, and four-banger challenges.
