others out was repaid with the speedy offer of a
replacement crank.
These days, the Clevo-based combo is built tough
with JE pistons atop Eagle H-beam rods thanks
to oversized pins. The block still has water in it —
albeit not a lot, thanks to plenty of grout to add as
much strength as possible. Up top are 4V cast-iron
heads that have been heavily ported before being
fitted with Ferrea 5000 valves, Comp Cams triple
valve springs, titanium retainers, Comp Cams roller
lifters, and Pro Magnum roller rockers.
While Alan’s goal was to sort the panel and paint
himself, work got in the way, so he reluctantly
made the call to outsource it. Matt Haydon at
Total Panel Repairs was the man to who the task
was given, and, despite being given a very tight
budget, he managed to turn out the look you see
today. Mind you, it’s not all Ford componentry now,
with a fibreglass hood fitted to the one-piece front
— or what’s left of it, at least — and, obviously, the
addition of Lexan windows for weight and safety.
Despite the first season being a testing one for the
Marshall family, the car’s now run a best of 9.33
at 144mph in the competitive Top Street class.
However, with what’s been learnt along the way,
and with the help and support of the right people,
we’re guessing that those times are set to take a
massive tumble over the seasons to come.
