Nicosia-based club in a friendly match on
May 29, 1968.
The game was the last of four matches played
on our end-of-season tour to Greece and Cyprus.
We stayed at the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia
for the day before and the day of the game, with
the match taking place at the Nicosia Stadium.
A strong wind added to the difficulties of a hard
and dusty pitch but we emerged with a 3-0 win
thanks to goals from Jimmy Robertson, Jimmy

Spurs: Jennings, Kinnear, Want, Beal, Collins,
Mackay, Robertson, Bond (Pearce 45), Gilzean
(Pratt 45), Venables, Jones (Johnson 45).

We lined up for our first match in Cyprus on
May 19 as we took on Anorthosis Famagusta.
All five of our goals in our 5-0 victory came
in the first-half at the Famagusta Stadium.
Jimmy Greaves notched a hat-trick while
Robertson scored twice.
Three days later, we took on reigning
Cypriot First Division champions Athlitiki
Enosi Lemesou (AEL) in Limassol, which saw
Gilzean get a trio of goals in our 7-1 success.
Also on target in Nicosia was Dennis Bond and
Robertson while Jones got a brace.
We faced a Cypriot International XI during
our time in Nicosia, with Gilzean scoring his
