Tottenham Hotspur — December 07, 2017

(Nancy Kaufman) #1
ighs and lows, ups and downs. Eric
Dier has seen it all already in his 157
matches for Spurs.
In fact, we’ve witnessed it in 22
matches this season. Magnificent wins in the Champions
League against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund
tempered by defeat at Arsenal. Blow Liverpool away at
Wembley, but then lose against West Ham United in the
League Cup.
As we go into tonight’s final Group H fixture in the
Champions League, we’re suffering a sticky spell in the
Premier League having gone four matches without a win.
Considering our form over the last two seasons, that
constitutes a relatively tough time.
Eric has played in all 22 games to date in this
campaign and it’s perhaps no surprise he follows this
mantra...“The key is not to take the highs too high and
the lows too low.”
Recent performances against West Bromwich Albion,

Leicester City and Watford deserved more. Mauricio
Pochettino certainly thinks so.
"We need to split two things,” said the manager after
Saturday’s game at Vicarage Road. “One is the performances,
which I’m happy with and another is the results – and we’re
so frustrated about the results.”
What there seems to be a lack of – and this is the subject
we’re talking about – is perspective. It’s black and white,
good or bad, nothing in between.
“It’s the world we live in,” said Eric. “One week you hear
‘Tottenham are amazing, young, exciting, they are going to
take over the world!’ and then the next day it’s ‘Tottenham
need to grow up, Tottenham this, Tottenham that’ but we
have to accept that.
“We have to focus on ourselves, in our bubble and what
the manager, the coaching staff and the club feels and wants.
That’s what we concentrate on and forget everything that’s
happening outside that bubble.”
We go into tonight’s Champions League matchday six
