Tottenham Hotspur — December 07, 2017

(Nancy Kaufman) #1
personal honour of captaining England in high-profile
friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
“I’ve felt good all season,” said Eric. “In fact, since
the first day of pre-season. Last year was difficult
for me. Coming into (this) pre-season, I felt that I’d
learned a lot the year before and I wanted to learn from
those mistakes in the right way and I feel I’ve done that
so far.
“There’s only one thing better than playing for your
country and that’s captaining it. There are not many better
individual achievements than that. It was obviously a very
proud time for me, my family and everyone that’s been
with me and helped me along the way.
“No-one can understand how many factors there were
rolled into one last year, I’ve addressed that.
"Everything’s a learning curve. I can still improve a lot
in all areas and I want to progress a lot more still and try
to be the best I can.”

LONDON BOUND
Joined us in August, 2014, scoring a
memorable winner on his debut away to
West Ham that month. Has established
himself as a versatile member of the
squad, equally adept in defence or
midfield. Ever-present so far this season.

ENGLAND DUTY
Made his senior debut for the Three Lions as
a substitute against Spain in November, 2015,
scoring his first goal for his country to give England
a 3-2 win over Germany in Berlin in March, 2016,
and captaining them for the first time against the
same opponents here last month.
