Cypriot international defender Merkis is
best known for his career with Apollon
Limassol where he spent 15 seasons,
making his debut as a 17-year-old in
2001-02 and winning a First Division title
in 2005-06 plus a couple of Cypriot Cups.
After signing for APOEL last January he
ironically scored his first goal for his new
club against Apollon and has won back-to-
back titles with Thrylos.

Carlos Roberto da Cruz Junior – known as
Carlao – begin his career with Corinthians
in Brazil before a 2008 transfer to
Sochaux. The centre-back spent six
seasons in French football ahead of his
2014 switch to APOEL, who subsequently
sold Carlao to Torino in January. However,
after making just four appearances for the
Italian club he has returned to Nicosia on a
season-long loan.

Born in Mytilene, Greece, Vouros is a
Greek Under-21 international in his first
season in Cypriot football. He came
through the youth system at Olympiakos,
making his debut as an 18-year-old in
2014, but struggled to establish himself
in Piraeus, appearing just 13 times in total
before spending the second half of last
season on loan at Levadiakos. He moved
to APOEL in August.

In 2005, at the age of 14, Dutch midfielder
Ebecilio suffered a heart attack and
was resuscitated by his AZ Alkmaar
team-mate Roland Alberg, before having
a defibrillator fitted. He went on to sign
for Ajax, winning two Eredivisie titles
in 2011 and 2012, and played in Ukraine,
Azerbaijan and Russia before joining
APOEL in January.

back, but also capable of
playing in a defensive midfield
role, Rueda began his career
with Valladolid in his native
Spain and became a first-team
regular between 2011 and 2015
following a season on loan with
Cordoba. He moved on to Beitar
Jerusalem, spending two years
in Israel before a summer switch
to Nicosia where he has slotted
straight into the team.
