wo of the earliest playing
connections between the
Swans and West Bromwich
Albion are inside-right Ivor
Jonesand defender Arthur Cook.
Jones, who is the father of Swans
legends Bryn and Cliff, moved to
The Hawthorns in 1922, having
scored 14 times in 65 league
appearances for his hometown club
at the start of his career. Cook
moved in the opposite direction, via
Luton Town, playing 38 league
matches for the Baggies between
1911 and 1921 and lining up in 17
games for the Swans the following
year.
Tony Millington is one of the most
popular goalkeepers in Swans
history, with nearly 200
appearances for the club. The
Hawarden-born stopper joined West
Brom as a trainee in July 1959 and
made his first-team debut just over
two years later. He played in 40

league matches for the West
Midlands outfit, prior to moves to
Crystal Palace and Peterborough
United. He signed for the Swans in
1969 and played a key part in the
club’s promotion to the Third
Division the following year. After
appearing 178 times in the league
in SA1, he left for Northern Irish
side Glenavon in 1974.
Welsh international winger Ronnie
Rees moved to West Brom from
Coventry City in 1968, scoring six
goals in 40 league appearances. He
later joined the Swans from
Nottingham Forest, playing 89
times in the league and netting five
times between 1972 and 1975.
Wallsend-born forward Colin West
signed for West Brom in 1989 after
successful spells with the likes of
Sunderland, Watford, Rangers and
Sheffield Wednesday, scoring 22
goals in 73 league appearances
before leaving to join the Swans in

    44 matches for the club – in which
    he scored 15 goals in all
    competitions – saw him sent off in
    the 2-0 defeat against the Baggies
    in the following year’s second
    division play-off semi-final second
    leg.


Kwame Ampadu was an Autoglass
Trophy winner with the Swans in
1994, scoring in the penalty
shootout success against
Huddersfield Town at Wembley. The
midfielder made 144 league
appearances in four years at the
club and scored 12 times after
joining from West Brom, where he
bagged four goals in 49 league
games.
