completed the scoring in a
comprehensive rout.

DECEMBER 7, 1968
WEYMOUTH 1 SWANS 1
FA CUP
After beating Oxford City on the road
last time out, the Swans were handed
another away tie against Weymouth in
the second round. The visitors
dominated the first half and deservedly
went ahead with a goal from Billy
Screen, while also having one from
Brian Evans disallowed. However, non-
league Weymouth came back firing
and equalised after the break, leaving
the Swans clinging on at the end and
grateful to escape with a replay.

DECEMBER 2, 1978
SWANS 4 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 2
DIVISION THREE
Following the previous year’s
promotion, the Swans continued to
ride the crest of a wave and were
second in the third division ahead
of facing Sheffield Wednesday.
New signing Phil Boersma
opened the scoring in the first
minute, only for Rodger Wylde
to equalise almost immediately
for the visitors. Player-
manager John Toshack
restored the lead soon after
but, once again, Wednesday

replied through Brian Hornsby.
However, the Swans went back in front
just after half-time with Toshack and
Jeremy Charles scoring in quick
succession to seal the points.

DECEMBER 4, 1984
SWANS 1 SPENCER WORKS 1
WELSH CUP
It had been a desperate start to the
season for the Swans. Pressure was
on manager Colin Appleton with his
side at the foot of the third division,
while suffering a humiliating defeat
against Isthmian League side Bognor
Regis in the FA Cup. Appleton opted
for a full-strength side against
minnows Spencer Works but, such
was the lack of confidence in the team,
they struggled to break down a
resolute defence and needed a late
David Cole strike to spare their
blushes.

DECEMBER 3, 1996
CARDIFF CITY 1 SWANS 3
DIVISION THREE
The Swans had won their last three
games and were starting to find
consistency after what had been a

difficult start to Jan Molby’s first full
season in charge. Despite away fans
being banned from attending this mid-
week Welsh derby, the visitors started
well and took the lead through Kwame
Ampadu after just 11 minutes. Steve
Jones doubled the advantage and,
despite the visitors replying on the
stroke of half-time, the Swans
survived a lengthy spell of pressure
from their opponents after the break
before Dai Thomas’ strike sealed the
points with four minutes remaining.

DECEMBER 9, 2008
SWANS 2 BARNSLEY 2
CHAMPIONSHIP
The Swans had drawn their last three
games ahead of facing Barnsley, who
occupied a play-off place in the
Championship, and found themselves
2-0 down in the 56th minute after
goals from Jon Macken and Jamal
Campbell-Ryce. However, despite
the hosts turning in one of their
poorest performances of the
season, Jason Scotland pulled
one back 10 minutes later
before grabbing a second deep
into stoppage time to ensure a
share of the spoils at the Liberty.
