our months on from signing
for Swansea City Ladies,
defender Alison Witts has
established herself as a
regular in Ian Owen’s squad, making
a positive impact in both the Welsh
Premier Women’s League and Uefa
Women’s Champions League.
Featuring in every match for the
Swans Ladies since making the
switch from Swindon Town in
August, Witts has quickly become
accustomed to life in south Wales.
“I’ve settled in really well with the
Swans, they are a professional club
with a fantastic manager, staff and
players who are all extremely
welcoming,” Witts explained.
“The girls are all so easy to get on
with and a pleasure to play with and
be around. Everyone works hard for
each other, which is exactly what
you want from a team.
“Playing for the Swans is a pleasure
and something I really enjoy doing.”
Having previously played for the
Swans’ league rivals Cardiff Met
Ladies, Witts is no stranger to the
Welsh Premier Women’s League.
“It’s really nice to be back playing in
the WPWL for such a reputable club
like Swansea,” she said. “As a club,
we treat each game uniquely but
strive to play with quality and at a
high intensity.
“It can be difficult playing against
certain teams and it becomes easy
for our quality to drop off quickly,
but we set ourselves high standards
which helps to overcome suchchallenges.
“Training with the Swans is always
enjoyable. Ian puts a lot of time and
effort to plan sessions which are
effective, enjoyable and help to
execute our game-plan. I know how
important it is to train well and take
momentum forward into every
game.”
After featuring in every match of the
Swans Ladies Women’s Champions
League journey in August, Witts
relished the opportunity to play on
the international stage.
“I really enjoyed travelling to
Romania to play in the Champions
League this summer, it was my first
experience playing in Europe and I
learnt a lot,” she reflected.
“Personally, I took a lot of positives
from the experience even if we
didn’t quite get the results we werehoping for. I know we developed as
a team and also learnt a lot, so we
are all looking forward to hopefully
getting the opportunity to go again
and progress further.”
Witts now looks ahead to the rest of
the 2017-18 season as the Swans
Ladies hope to retain their WPWL
title.
“I know as a team our main focus
and goal for the season is to win the
WPWL and qualify for the
Champions League again,” she
added.
“The best mentality is a winning
one, so I don’t see any reason why
we can’t challenge to win the Welsh
Cup, too.
“We have an extremely strong
squad with a huge amount of
potential, I’m really excited to see
how far we can go this season.”WITTS’
