Savvy India — December 2017

(Kiana) #1

MY WORD

“Producer. Predator. Pariah.” ...Is how ‘TIME’ headlined
its cover story on disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
Lightening struck Weinstein when dozens of Hollywood’s ladies
slammed him for groping/ molesting/ raping them. Focus Savvy
spotlights how Weinstein’s depravity has unleashed an anti-sexual
harassment tornado across the world... Amazingly, women from
various professions have found the spine to tackle their tormentors.
Yes, ‘The Weinstein Effect’ is a huge step forward – while oppressed
women are speaking up, debauched men will be afraid to unleash
themselves on unwilling women. Way to go, ladies!

Three women-centric fi lms are currently in the eye of a storm in
our country. Film Savvy gets up close to the issues surrounding
‘Padmavati’, ‘S Durga’ and ‘Nude’ ...And gets a cross-section of
people to comment on the overt and covert concerns surrounding
fi lms that portray women in unconventional roles. Stay glued!

Turning the conventional role of being the dutiful First Daughter of the
US President on its head was Ivanka Trump with her entrepreneurship
meet in Hyderabad. The Global Entrepreneurship Summit that she
headlined was one power-packed symposium and yes, we’re told, a
resounding success! President Donald Trump must be beaming...
which daddy wouldn’t be proud to have a child who displays
professional acumen and personal charisma? More power to Ivanka!

Another young woman powerfully striding into the limelight in her
Dior and Gucci ensembles is hot-stepper Prernaa Arora. Coming out
of nowhere, she’s made waves in Bollywood by producing quite a
few unconventional fi lms – ‘Rustom’ and ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’
among others. Turn to her I Believe to understand how a small town
girl has enchanted the stars with her grit ‘n’ gumption!

2017 has been an eventful year for us women... we’ve won some
and lost a few... but the good part is, we’re still out there – trying,
faltering, scaling, excelling, inspiring... With no thought of ever
giving up. Cheers to us!

God bless
