CELL PHONE NIGHTMARE
A study carried out by
researchers at Murdoch
and Griffi th Universities,
Australia, revealed that using
a cell phone late at night
has devastating effects on
teenagers’ mental health. The
blue light emanating from
the phone has been shown
to affect hormones as well as
negatively affect attitude and
cognitive skills.

BE AWARE
Hepatitis C (HCV) is one of the most dreaded
blood infections in the world - caused by a
virus that attacks the liver. The most common
symptoms are fever, appetite loss and muscle
pain. Researchers at the Berkeley School of
Public Health, USA, revealed that people have
misconceptions about the ailment. Since HCV
is transmitted through infected blood, use of
tainted needles is the most common way for it
to be transmitted. It cannot be transferred by
coughing, sneezing or even sharing food with
an infected person. Research shows that even
unprotected sex with an infected individual
has low chances of transferring the disease.
However, if you are experiencing symptoms,
it is best to visit your doctor and get tested. It
is unwise to rely on the false sense of security
that you have not had an injection recently
and are thus safe.
