CHIPBOARD HOUSE
LOCATION OCEAN SHORES, NSW
Built predominantly from OSB (chipboard),
the interior of this small family home is
wrapped in a fl owing warmth that is as
beautiful as it is durable. Consisting of three
bedrooms, one bathroom and open-living
areas, the Chipboard House is a frugal
construction of clean lines and uncluttered
spaces that perfectly meet the mindset of
the homeowners — fuss-free! Built to house
a family of four, the bedrooms of this humble
abode are compact and utilitarian but far from
cold. A simple pallet-style timber bed frame
sits in the centre of the master bedroom, with
stool-like bedside tables and wall sconces
framing the main feature of the room. An
oceanic-themed artwork adds a splash of blue
to the otherwise honey-hued colour palette,
and a huge built-in wardrobe off ers plenty of
storage. Sliding glass doors bring the outside
in and bounce light around the open space of
this unassuming but comfy room.

LOCATION PUKERUA BAY, NORTH ISLAND NZ
With windows like this cathedral-shaped
‘ode to the view’, you’d never want to leave
the bedroom! Built on the shores of Pukerua
Bay in New Zealand, this family beach bach is
the result of an architect determined to build
his own holiday home. “I love the process
of building and it’s a pity so few architects
participate in it,” says homeowner Guy
Marriage. Plywood interiors create a warmth
in the internal spaces that also withstand the
harsh coastal conditions. The blond tones of
the wall and fl oor materials in this upstairs
bedroom serve as a neutral backdrop to the
magnifi cent vistas that dominate the space.
Emphasising the simple lifestyle of beach
living, minimal styling and a lack of clutter help
the homeowners to fully appreciate the view.
