13: DESIGN MOUNT ALBERT HOUSE
LOCATION MOUNT ALBERT, AUCKLAND
The private balcony off the master suite of
this New Zealand home belies the simple
functionality of the dwelling. A small luxury in
an otherwise sparse design, the ability to open
the room fully to the outdoors is a nice touch.
Surrounded by neighbours on all sides, the
use of a solid railing adds privacy to the space,
creating a secluded retreat without making
it feel closed in, while still allowing plenty of
natural light to fl ow through the glass doors.
Timber fl oors provide a further connection
to the outdoors and a neutral colour palette
keeps the space calm and soothing.

14: DESIGN BRUNSWICK HOUSE
LOCATION BRUNSWICK, VICTORIA
A mezzanine level within the double-height
extension added to the rear of this double-
fronted terrace in Brunswick has become
the ultimate master suite. Flooded with
natural light from the wall of windows facing
it, this open-plan bedroom is a study in
contemporary style. A simple low-lying timber
bed frame adds a touch of natural warmth to
a very neutral palette. Bare-bulb industrial-
style lights hang over timber bedside tables
that lend a practical touch and bolster the ‘no
frills’ aesthetic of the room. Open, fresh and
contemporary are the bywords of this unique
sleeping space.

15: DESIGN BLACK ROCK TOWNHOUSE
LOCATION BLACK ROCK, MELBOURNE
Luxe layers and touchable textures abound
in this intimate space. In the Melbourne
waterside suburb of Black Rock, a
sophisticated, glamorous and highly textural
townhouse that is both warm and inviting
off ers a peaceful sanctuary from the hustle
and bustle of the city. The warm neutral tones
of the master bedroom, which is infl uenced by
the Hamptons, enhances the elegant styling.
Grass cloth wallpaper adds visual interest
and another layer of texture behind the cosy
velvet bedhead. Metallic accessories and a
glass pendant light add a touch of glamour,
and lashings of complementary colours
provide the fi nal fi nish to this peaceful retreat.
