WAFT THIS WAY
’Tis the season for stress and sickness. Luckily, aromatherapy has some
special scents to help us cope. Amy Reedman, a registered aromatherapist and
founder of The Blending Bar in Maple Ridge, BC, walked us through some
of the most essential oils for all your winter troubles.

INHALE LEMON OIL
(Citrus limonum)
to stimulate mental
clarity and focus. Its
uplifting properties
may help those with
seasonal affective
disorder. Put a drop on
the end of a dark-
coloured scarf for an
all-day pick-me-up.

TRY LAVENDER
(Lavandula
angustifolia)
for a sedative effect.
Use two to four drops in
a diffuser a few hours
before bed to help you
fall asleep. If you have
trouble staying asleep,
rub a drop of vetiver on
the soles of your feet.

PUT A DROP OF
MARJORAM
(O r iganum
majorana)
on a tissue, then
cup it in your hands
and inhale with slow,
gentle (not deep)
breaths. The oil will
help melt your
stress away.

ADD EUCALYPTUS
OIL
(Eucalyptus radiata)
to a diffuser (three to
10 drops, depending
on the size of the room)
to open your airways,
break up mucus and
strengthen your
immune system to
fend off the next bug.
