Ancient wisdom
I had never heard of the Yolngu people until
I read your photo story (April 20 22). The fact
that these people have practised their beliefs
in private for thousands of years — only
relatively recently opening up their land
to visitors and sharing those deeply held
traditions — is fascinating. What a beautiful,
untouched part of the world. The photos are
spectacular and I love the Yolngu saying, ‘We
have a library in the land’, because it conjures
up an incredible image of how they live. The
fact that their tour guides set no itinerary
must allow for a peaceful, calm feeling of
timelessness to settle over any visitors. What
a wonderful thought. ANN POLLARD

Embrace the outdoors with this
innovative bundle from the
Scottish brand. The short-sleeved
trail top and trail trousers are
perfect for travel or everyday use.
They’re both made with Polygiene
ViralOff treatment, which prevents
odour-causing bacteria from
forming on the lightweight stretch
fabric. Also included is the neck
tube, a versatile addition for any
expedition, made from microfibre
material to keep moisture in check.

Break from the norm
Being a new mum on maternity leave can be
extremely lonely, and sometimes it’s easy to
feel trapped in your own home. During this
time, National Geographic Traveller (UK) has
always been an escape from the daily routine
and makes me feel like I’m in the places from
the articles. The article about Zagreb (May
2022) also encouraged me to look at booking
a city break in the near future: I had no idea
that Zagreb had such a fascinating culture
and, most importantly, a coff ee culture (I’m a
big fan of a cuppa). I’m looking forward to my
trip to the Croatian capital and to your next
edition, no doubt to fi nd another hidden gem
for our travels. KAROLINA YOUNG

Seeing stars
It’s always enlightening to read your
magazine, as even the well-travelled will
fi nd somewhere they would like to visit
among your pages, but it’s perhaps the places
on our own doorsteps that we might know
least about. The Great British adventures
feature (May 2022 ) gave real insight into our
national parks, and I had no idea that a place
in my home county had been given Dark Sky
Reserve status. Stargazing in the Yorkshire
Dales has certainly been added to my travel
list. KATE IBBESON
