HOW TO RECREATE
Rainbow Dust Colours Advert Cake
1 Place 20 x 12.7cm round cake
centrally onto 25cm round 12mm
cake board, using buttercream in the
centre to hold cake in place.
Split and fill with buttercream, then
apply a thin layer of buttercream
around sides and top. Place in fridge
to chill.
2 Place each of the 15 x 10cm round
cakes onto 15cm round 3mm thin
cards. Split and fill with buttercream.
Insert five dowels into first cake,
one into the centre and the
remaining four spaced evenly
around. Trim each dowel to fit,
then cover the top surface, over
dowels with buttercream. Place
second cake on top and cover the
whole cake with a thin layer of
buttercream. Place the 10cm round
cake onto the same size board, then
split and fill with buttercream, before
applying a thin layer around the sides
and top. Place all cakes in fridge
to chill.
3 Cover each of the cakes in turn
using white premium cover paste
and leave overnight to firm.
4 Cut eight flower shapes using
the white flower/modelling paste
and five petal rose cutter. Roll over
outside edges of the petals with a
CelStick before placing them into
flower formers to dry. Dry brush over
each flower with starlight comet
white. Add a small amount of black
ProGel to flower/modelling paste,
and knead in well until even in colour.
Brush edible glue onto centre of
each flower then add a small ball of
black paste and press down slightly.
Cut each of the stamens down to
approximately 1cm, then dip each
one into edible glue before inserting
into, and around the black centre,
making sure they are evenly spaced.
Leave to dry.
5 Add black Colour Flo to royal icing
until the desired colour is achieved,
adding a little water to create a thin
consistency. Place stencil around
your 20cm cake, holding in place
with pins. Apply a layer of the black
royal icing all over the stencil, use
a plastic scraper to remove excess
icing then carefully remove stencil
and leave to dry. Wash and dry stencil
before positioning this in line with
the previous lines already stencilled,
to then repeat the same process of
applying the royal icing, until you
have completed all the way around
your cake.
6 Mix light gold metallic paint with a
few drops of water, and mix together
before adding this into your airbrush.
Before airbrushing, place scrap pieces
of paper onto your work surface.
Then place 15 x 20cm deep cake
onto a spare board, onto a turntable
before starting to airbrush.
Apply colour evenly all around and
over your cake, and leave to dry.
7 Dowel and stack cakes before
securing flowers onto the front using
royal icing.
