Street Machine Australia — January 2018

(Romina) #1

MAIN: Summernats 30 Burnout
Masters winner Steve Nogas
in his tyre-shredding Camaro,
KILLA-B, was on hand to wow the
crowd. There was an early hiccup
when the Camaro cooked the
starter, but after Steve swapped
in a new one, KILLA-B was soon
frying its rears and creating
massive plumes of smoke

01: The crowd-favourite burnout

demos kicked off at 1pm, with
Michael Jambor’s blown HZ ute,
FORCED, first up. Michael made
very short work of his first set of
tyres and the fans loved every
second of it. He was on again at
3pm and lit up the second set just
as quickly

02: Anthony Strauss drove his
genuine ’75 HJ GTS Monaro coupe
to the Rod Shop Open Day from

Bendigo. “I bought the car about
14 years ago and completed a 2.5-
year rebuild on it,” he said. “The
car is pretty much unchanged
from there, except four years
ago we put a hot motor in it.”
The HJ is now powered by a 355
stroker coupled with a Turbo 700.
“It’s pretty tough now I reckon,”
Anthony smiled. The car also runs
a 9in diff with 31-spline Moser
axles and Detroit Locker

TONNER CASH
THE raffle to win a WB one-tonner built by
inmates at Junee Correctional Centre has
been run and won, with a fantastic outcome.
A massive $78,010 was raised for the Junee
branch of Can Assist, which will directly benefit
the 70-odd rural cancer patients they have on
their books. The lucky winner was a Wagga
lad by the name of Brock Phillips – a diehard
Holden man and a third-year apprentice at the
local Holden dealership. We’d like to offer a big
congratulations to Brock and everyone involved
in the project. To watch a video on the tonner,
head to streetmachine.com.au.

better coverage of Street Machine Summernats

SEMA Show in Las Vegas (we ran out of room
this issue, soz), visit the last genuine race-
