STRIPES: As the donor car
started life as a HT GTS 186S,
George resisted the urge to put
stripes down the sides. “Only the
V8 cars got those stripes in the
HT, so I left them off.” Wisely, he
also left off the 186S badges!

ENGINE: Although George
would like to chuck the Monaro
down the quarter for a laugh, he
built the car to cruise. Zoran at
Competition Engines screwed
together a tidy combo using a
brand-new Dart block, AFR heads,
a Comp Cams hydraulic-roller
cam, SRP forgies and I-Beam
conrods rotating a Scat 4340
crank. The 400-cube V8 tops an
Edelbrock Victor Jr 2V intake and
EZ-EFI 2.0 fuel injection system

STORAGE AGAINST
THE MACHINE
WHILE George was almost
lynched when he told folks he
was going to work his original
HK GTS 307, its eventual fate
was actually a lot sadder. “I had
it in a storage joint when one of
those late-model Porsche GT3s
just randomly caught on fire,”
he says. “My GTS copped a lot
of soot damage, and because it
was an electrical fire they used
a dry powder, which settled all
over the paint and just wrecked
it.” George’s HK was written-off
from the damage, but thankfully
he didn’t rely on the storage
mob to come good and had the
car independently insured for
the right amount.
