decisiontodrawstumpsinSeptemberand
takewell-earnedretirement– Burdenafter
55 yearsinthebusiness.Thebetternewsis
thattheiryoungestgunsmith,thetalented
AlexSmith,ismaintainingthetraditionand
after 17 yearsatChaplinswillcontinueto
offerthefullgamutofservice,repairand
fittingfromthesameSouthgateStreet

Obituary

Huntingsafarioperatorswillnotbe
allowedattheGreatBritishShootingShow
in2020.TheNationalExhibitionCentre
(NEC)announcedthebanaftera petition
collected30,000signatures.
Theauthorsofthepetitionclaimedthat
allowing“thesefirmstopromotetheir
sickeningactivitiesattheBirmingham
NECwillbringshame on the Birmingham
NECandBritain”.
Aspokesmanforthevenuesaid:“The
NECcontinuestobea venuethatpermits
a widerangeofcontent.However,weare
also a business that is built around its

customersandthereforelistenstothem.
Wefullyunderstandconcernsregarding
theactivitiesofsomeBritishShooting
Showexhibitors,andhaveacted.Taking
theseconcernsandthesafetyofstaff
andvisitorsintoconsideration,wewillbe
removingexhibitorsthatpractisesafari
huntingfromtheshowinFebruary.”
Inthepast,theshowhasattracteda
smallnumberofsafarihuntingcompanies,
includingNamibHuntingSafaris,which
offersdangerousgamehuntinginsouthern
Africa,andUmliloSafaris, which provides
‘fenced’ lion hunting.

1967 - 2019

Itiswithgreatsadnessthatwereport
theuntimelypassingofCaroline
Sandersonwho,asCarolineRobinson,
managedtheadvertisingatShooting
Gazetteforseveralyearsinthe
1990s.Shewasa charmingand
vibrantcharacterwhetherintheoffice,
ontheShootingGazettestandatthe
GameFairandothershows, or chasing
down advertisers.

CarolinemarriedTomSanderson
andmovedwithhimtofarmin
Norfolk,whereshecontributed
enthusiasticallybothlocally and to her
widercommunity.
Carolinewasa generousandlovely
personwhowillbesadlymissed.Our
thoughtsarewithherhusbandTom,their
twoboys,herfamilyand her many friends
at this sad time.
