why he says this when you see the
shoot, but as Tim holds so many
yield records, I think you could say
he gives them equal status. Craig
shoots 60 days in the season, starting
with partridge (French rather
than English these days) and then
moves on to the pheasants, mixed
bags coming later in October and
November. All shot game goes to
Lincolnshire Game after the Guns
have had a brace to take home.
Craig handed over the running
of Iford Downs to Jamie Horner
so he could concentrate fully on
Worlaby. He persuaded good friend
and experienced gamekeeper Neil
Swinn to leave Wentworth in
Yorkshire and join him at Worlaby.
“I joined Tim and
found out more
about shooting with
a .410. Tim uses
a Yildiz after he
injured his back a
few years ago.”
Working closely with Tim, Craig
started running the shoot the season
before last, taking it on fully last
autumn. This was his fi rst full season
and I joined him for a partridge day
in late September on a beautiful,
sunny autumnal day.
We were meeting at the chapel
which is right in the middle of the
estate and full of paintings from
local game shooting artist Clare
Shaw, who also happens to pick-
up on the shoot. The chapel is a
welcoming, warm place, used as the
shoot room. Built originally for the
community, but never consecrated,
it fell into disrepair before Tim’s
family bought, repaired and put
it to use as the shoot room. It has
another story to tell as well. The
chapel has great acoustics and was
used by singer Barbara Dickson
OBE, who lived nearby, to rehearse
in. She also recorded one of her
albums in the chapel which rather
adds a touch of glamour - as does
