Australian 4WD Action – July 2019

(sharon) #1

  • Front: Ironman Lift kit with 15mm PSR strut spacers

  • Rear: TJM coils and Ironman shocks

  • Airbag Man air bags in the rear

  • 16in Kings D-Locker Rims

  • 285/75R16 BF Goodrich KM3 Mud Terrains

“I decided to have Ironman fit the suspension when I had the
front bar fitted for convenience. I was mainly after additional
clearance. While the front has done me very well, I’ve had
some issues in the rear. After a single trip up to the cape, the
rear coils have sagged and the shocks were busted. The plan
is to replace them now with Superior Engineering Remote Res
shocks, as from past experience I know they are the best you
can get. Lesson learnt: don’t cheap out on suspension! The
airbags went in after the Cape, as I wanted the rear to be
adjustable depending on what I’m carrying, plus I plan to do
some towing down the track. So far the airbags have been
fantastic.
“I went with the Kings rims ‘cause I love the look, and I
prefer steel for remote touring. The KM3s are proven tough,
and there was never a question that they’d be what I ran.”

here’s a good chance
you’ve probably seen
some of Jason
Heiler’s previous
4WDs in past issues
of the mag. There’s a good
reason for that – he’s built some
wickedly modified rigs in the
past. But for all the fun that can
come with driving a heavily
modified 4WD, there’s always
that little voice in the back of

your head whispering “what are
you going the break next?”
This was definitely the case
with Jason. “I just found that
every time I was out on the
tracks, I was wondering what
the next component to break
would be,” he says. “I don’t
know if it was the fact that my
earlier rigs were older, that
they were modified or that I
wheeled them hard, or a

combination of all three – but it
got to the point where I wasn’t
enjoying hitting the tracks.”
Jason decided that it was time
to build a rig that he could
setup the way he wanted, could
get him where he wanted to go
in comfort, and wasn’t going to
spend more time in the shed
than on the tracks. Enter the
2017 Nissan Navara. “The Nav
fit the budget, and it grew on

me very quickly,” he says.
“Nobody I knew owned one
which was a plus – I always like
having something a bit
different to those around me. I
did some research, and never
looked back.”
Check out what Jason has
done to turn this modern 4WD
into his ultimate remote
touring rig!
