horseback. Interestingly, the
NSW government more recently
conducted a trial study to see if
having bridle tracks for horse
riding would be possible without
causing irreparable damage to
park values. If the results of this
study are favourable, permanent
bridle tracks could be made
possible and this would be a
great adventure for equestrian
lovers. What is now left of the
farm are the ruins of the old
bread oven, water racecourse,
orchard trees, partially
reconstructed yards, and a grave
belonging to one of the infant
George children, a sombre
reminder of infant mortality rates


of that day, especially in such a
remote area. The ruins have
various signposts which explain
the layout of the property and
how it would have operated at the
time. They also tell the story of
one of the George boys breaking
his leg down near the river and
being in such a bad state the
family were not able to move him.
Instead, they set the leg as best
they could and built a shelter
around him where he stayed for
two weeks until he was recovered
enough to be moved back to the
homestead. During those two
weeks the family brought food
and water to him. It is almost
impossible to imagine how
