Iceland

1

Kerid Crater: This 3,000-year-old volcanic
crater lake features on some of the Golden
Circle tours but is well worth a separate trip.
Walk above the vivid red slopes surrounding
the aquamarine water.

2

Sólheimasandur airplane wreckage:
In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane
crashed on the black beach after running
out fuel. Fortunately nobody died and ever
since it has been one of the most photographed
locations in Iceland.

3

Reynisfjara: This world famous black-sand
beach has a dramatic and moody feel, the
powerful waves crashing against the dark
sands. You’ll also have a view out to the two
impressive basalt pillars.

4

Sólheimajökull Glacier: More than 10 per
cent of Iceland is covered in glaciers. This is
possibly the most visited, about two hours
from Reykjavik. Arcanum Tours offer two-
hour hikes and unforgettable experiences.

5

Flúðasveppir (Mushroom Farm): The only
mushroom farm in Iceland and home to
possibly the best mushroom soup in the
country – as well as mushroom ice-cream!
Groups can book a tour of the mushroom farm and a
dinner outside normal opening hours.

  • Top to bottom: Reynisfjara beach, the Kerid Crater and a
    group glacier walk with Arcanum.
