“For me, dance is fun
and empowering.
It’s self-expression and
release. It’s going into
that happy space.”

  • Joy Prouty

Stay facing forwards
as you take 3 sideways
steps out to one side.
On the 4th count, tap
your foot (not putting
any weight on it), then
take 3 steps to the other
side and tap. Each step
equals one beat: count
to 4 as you Step (1), Step
(2), Step (3), Tap (4);
Step (1), Step (2),
Step (3), Tap (4).
Continue to
alternate
sides.

While keeping both
feet grounded and hips
facing forward, slowly
alternate bending one
knee and then the other.
If it’s comfortable, try to
bring your bending knee
in towards the centre
so that your hip drops
down and to the side
slightly. Gradually begin
to lift the heel of your
bending leg as you
alternate and then,
when you’re ready,
lift your full foot a few
centimetres off the
ground to march. Be
sure to shift your weight
side-to-side on your non-
bending leg. To complete
the move, bend your
arms and swing the
arm opposite to your
bending knee across
your  body as you march.
