CATCH-22
Based on Joseph Heller’s
satirical novel, this six-part
series follows US bombardier
John Yossarian’s comic and
desperate efforts to stay alive
during the Second World War.
George Clooney, who directed
two episodes, also appears in
his first TV role since ER.
Peter Andre. “Sharing the role is the perfect start for me Starts 20 June on Channel 4 at 9pm.
in this new chapter, because it’s rare that you get the
opportunity to take on such a great part and the schedule
will not be so demanding,” he tells us. “The idea was always
for my theatre and broadcast career to be alongside each
other. And with the run that I’m doing, it means I’m able
to dovetail it all together, which is perfect.”
THE LAST WALTZ
As well as Grease, Ore has secured a role alongside
comedian Jason Manford in a touring production of
musical whodunnit Curtains. It runs from October until
next April, which means he won’t be hosting next year’s
Strictly Come Dancing tour for what would have been the
third year running.
“I’ll miss it massively,” he says of Strictly. “I’ve had the show
in my life for three years and it’ll just bring that particular
chapter to an end.
“It’s kind of sad, but all good things come to an end,” he
adds. “You have to move it on.”
Ore is still in touch with the celebrities from his time on
the show, including former politician Ed Balls and ex-
Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac.
“We’re the only post-show team to have a WhatsApp
thread still going three years later,” he says.
“Everyone appreciates and supports each other’s stuff.
We don’t always get to hang out and see each other, but we
do still connect. Every now and then we see each other and
we’re still very tight.”
He is also good friends with Dame Darcey Bussell, who
announced last month she was stepping down as a Strictly
judge after being a member of the panel for seven series.
Although Ore was shocked by the news, he understands
why she made the decision.
“We’ve had a friendship since before I was in Strictly, as we
worked at the Royal Opera House doing cinema screenings
around the world,” he says. “She’s been such a good friend.
“It was a big year for her – she was made a Dame, she
turned 50 – and I think she thought: ‘You know, I have had
a great run on the show, but I’m not done. There are so
many other mountains I want to climb.’”
Ore’s wife Portia (together, above) will be cheering him on as
he takes on the role of Teen Angel in Grease
