’m thrilled to pieces to have the incredible Chris Gardner — entrepreneur,
investor, stockbroker, motivational speaker, author and philanthropist —
gracing our cover this month. Read his story inside. For those of you who
don’t know Chris (aka the CEO of Happyness), then it’s time you
acquainted yourself with a man who has changed countless lives across the
world by leading by example and teaching others about tenacity and believing in
yourself. Chris speaks from experience — after a series of unfortunate events, he
found himself homeless in Chicago for almost a year, with his young son by his
side. But he didn’t give up. In fact, Chris used the situation he found himself in to
demonstrate to his son just what is possible in life.The Pursuit of Happyness is the Hollywood film (yes, that tear-jerking one in
which Will Smith plays Chris Gardner) based on Chris’ book of the same name.
They both take you on a tumultuous ride through Chris’ homelessness and rise to
becoming a highly successful stockbroker, eventually owning his own firm. His
message, his words, the books (he’s now published another book called Start
Where You Are) and the award-winning film, resonate with millions of people
from every walk of life, and he now travels the world to speak at events, while
also dedicating a lot of his time and money to helping others. I was lucky enough
to meet Chris for a fireside chat about leadership, and his message was clear:
