geographies to its customers. “If we
were solely focused on supplying pulp
to the newspaper industry we would be
in a lot of pain at the moment,” Jon says.
“While we still have some newsprint
customers, we have a balanced
portfolio where we provide pulp to
manufacturers of tissues, specialty
grades, packaging grades and so on.

“The other thing we are very focused on
is developing relationships with our
customers. We try to be less of a
transactional business to them,

“The longer-term vision for the

A SUSTAINABLE CLEAN RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE AT YOUR FEET

Central Wood Recyclers Ltd (CWR) was formed in 2003
and began gathering residues – that would otherwise rot on
the forest fl oor – hogging them on site in the forest and
transporting the product to Kinleith Mill.
This operation was expanded to Kawerau Mill (also owned by
Carter Holt Harvey) shortly thereafter. CWR expanded into
Pan Pac Mill in Hawkes Bay in 2006 and continues to provide
onsite hogging of residues.

CWR also splits and chips stumps pulled for land clearing
purposes, and processes this product for the same purpose.
TODAY
Our aim is to grow the process to include ALL residues
which can be utilised to provide a clean, reliable renewable
energy source to New Zealand for all types of enterprises.
It can be used to fuel boilers in hospitals, educational
campuses and a variety of other industries.
