For this year’s ELLE Writing
Competition, we’re looking
for modern, contemporary
voices telling stories that are
engaging and subversive.
We want: fresh, modern,
topical tales that may or may
not riff on pop culture. Humour
is encouraged but not essential.
We don’t want: stories that make
us sad. The world is dark enough.

While there’s no specific theme,
we want unpublished stories that
capture the mood of the moment.
Write a 4,000-word short story on the
topic of your choice. The deadline for
entries is October 26, so if you’ve got
a tale to tell, what are you waiting for?

The winning fiction will be published
in the January/February issue of ELLE,
and the author awarded a $5,000
prize. Two runners-up will receive
a prize pack of recent releases from
Hachette Australia worth $200.
