THE GAME

CHANGER

LAMBORGHINI *
URUS
You know the SUV trend has reached its zenith
when the supercar makers start throwing their
hats in the ring. Thankfully, Lamborghini have
done it for the right reasons. The “Super Sports
Utility vehicle”, as the Italians like to call it, was
designed with women in mind. The idea was to
create a highly powerful, multiple-passenger
supercar that could on take any terrain with the
gusto of a Lamborghini and the comfort, safety
and passenger-pleasing tech of an SUV (side
note: models like the epic race-ready Huracán
Performante have a comfort factor of about,
uh, none). It’s a novel idea that has spurred
a war among the brands.
We’re skipping over some very important
specs here, like active torque vectoring (for
advanced traction), carbon ceramic brakes,
adaptive air suspension and six driving modes.
There’s a lot going on under this aerodynamic
body, and it’s really, really fast, with a top speed
of 305kmph. Does this really need to exist?
Probably not. Do we want one? You bet.
The winning edge: This is the first time
a true supercar maker has openly admitted
they wanted to create a car for women.
So essentially, it’s a cake-and-eat-it-too
SUV: fast, sexy, safe and much, much
more cargo space than the norm. >

MERCEDES-BENZ *
A-CLASS A 200
(LAUNCH EDITION)
There’s a lot to unpack with the brand new
Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback. Yes, it brags
mega safety features (including a structural redesign
for better visibility) and more cargo space than its
predecessor, but what makes it stand out from the rest
is also its most hyped element – the user-friendly tech
features. Activate the spanking new, Gen Y-aimed
“Linguatronic” AI system with two words, “Hey
Mercedes!”, and you’ll control everything from the
navigation to the infotainment, phone calls, music
and even the aircon. The Merc-bot is a learner, too,
eventually adapting to your voice and turn of phrase.
On top of a new shape for the hatch, the OG
stuck-on iPad-esque screen is gone, replaced with
an astronomically cool cockpit with a highly
personalised 10.25-inch infotainment system, that not
only looks cool as, but allows you to adjust visibility.
The winning edge: Mercedes-Benz has
been honing in on how “user experience” relates
to cars, and instead of looking at a car as, well,
a car, the A-class’ approach is more of a “lifestyle
vehicle”, aiming to adapt to our lives and not
the other way around.
