LIKE MANY OF YOU, I’M ABSOLUTELY obsessed with
decorating. As a child, I would pinch my mum’s Ikea catalogue
and circle all the things I wanted for my bedroom. I was
constantly drawing fl oorplans of my perfect future house,
creating colour schemes (white, grey and peach was my idea
of heaven in the ’80s) and now, decades on, my habits haven’t
changed. Hand on heart, becoming editor of real living is
a dream come true. I’ve spent half my career working here
and watching the mag evolve, but one thing has remained
the same – decorating is at the core of everything we do. I’ve
got so many ideas I want to share with you over the coming
issues; there’ll be lots more to shop, beautiful styling projects
to try and plenty of gorgeous homes to pore over.
This issue’s all about living in a way that’s as sustainable
as it is stylish. Whether you rent or own, have a tiny home
(check out the one on p38!) or loads of space, you can be
smart about how you shop, renovate and live. If you’re in the
mood to buy a little something to update your home, our green
edit on p83 features the most amazing new eco homewares
and design buys. We also reveal the real costs of living green,
from installing solar panels to buying an electric car, and how
to choose the most environmentally friendly home appliances.
And let’s not forget about plants! Got one that’s not looking
so good? Flip to p141 to fi gure ou t w hat it’s tr y ing to te ll you.
So, let’s set out on this new chapter together. If there’s
anything you love, have an opinion about or really want to
see in the mag, get in touch. I’d love to hear from you. But
fi rst, have a read of this excellent Green Issue (thanks team!),
fi nd something that inspires you and start decorating!
