LET THERE BE LIGHT...
BUT NOT TOO MUCH
Lauren loves light, and a sizeable slice of
her budget went on lighting – but not just
any lighting. In the living areas, her sparky
suggested she reduce the downlights by
nearly half, to avoid the airport-runway
effect and because they were glary. In
their place, she included pendants and
table and floor lamps “for a soft mood”.
He also suggested a powerboard
recessed into the living room floor for
extra powerpoints and to avoid the
spaghetti jumble of extension cords –
Lauren runs a floor lamp off this. “Push
your tradies for design ideas,” she urges.

A COVERED OUTDOOR ROOM
WILL GET YEAR-ROUND USE
In a savvy move, Lauren upped the
appeal of the deck area by turning it into
an outdoor room. She extended its area
and added a roof with broad eaves,
which provides plenty of shade and
shelter, regardless of the weather. “It’s
a nice place to be on hot, humid days.
Plus, you can watch the storms roll in,”
Lauren says. There’s a big emphasis on
comfort, thanks to the tough jute rug
and the versatile inside/outside Butterfly
chairs. Casual floor cushions, a fave
with Lauren, provide comfy additional
seating in this area. R

Quiet corner At the opposite
end of the outside deck, Lauren
has created a separate seating
area using Butterfly chairs by
Angelucci, a jute rug from Ikea,
stump table by Good Wood
Supply Co and cushions and
throws by I Love Linen.
