GREEN FROM THE ROOF DOWN

In the past year, Tanya and Peter have opened their home to more than 2700 eco-curious visitors wanting
to see an environmentally conscious house in action. “People want eco-effi cient, environmentally friendly
spaces to live in,” Tanya says. “From a sustainability perspective, they’re curious about how we did it.” As
an ambassador for 202020 Vision, the Australia-wide project to boost urban green space by 20 per cent in
the next two years, Tanya is delighted with how well the home’s two-level green roof is working. Designed
and installed by Deep Green Landscaping, it features a living layer of succulents and natives, which keeps
the home cool. The roof is also used to generate electricity with solar power panels and a solar hot-water
system by Infi nite Energy. “We don’t pay much in power bills at all,” she says.
