lThe bee population is stable for the first time in
more than 30 years. Environmentalists have been
concerned about the global number of
fuzzy bois, as we call them at Home,
which has been declining since the
1980s. But now there are thought to
be two trillion bees made up of 250
species pollinating flowers around the
world, according to the honey
producer Nelson Honey. Bees in China
produce the most honey in the world
(497,286 tonnes per year), but India is home
to the most hives (about 12.25 million).
lThe newest indicator of social
status is a rewilded estate,
according to Tatler. Other
indicators that show
you’ve made it include
an ornamental lake,
houseplants (the rarer
the better), wine cellar,
Ottolenghi spices in
your cupboard, and a
haute couture nursery
upholstered in Liberty print.
lApplications opened for the Boiler Upgrade
Scheme last week — but good luck qualifying for any
money. Myles Robinson from Boiler Central says that
energy-efficient pumps are unfit for most UK homes
and, even when compatible, the upfront costs can run
as high as £35,000. The government heat pump grant
of £6,000 would help, but if you already have a combi
boiler or a hydrogen-ready boiler you don’t qualify.

lBad news for locals looking to buy
in Margate, or Hackney-by-the-
Sea. The town has topped a
Rightmove list of locations where
asking prices have risen the
most since the Diamond Jubilee
in 2012. Thanks to Banksy and
London hipsters, the average
asking price has gone up by 107
per cent in ten years, to £308,508.
lTeenagers now have a solid excuse not to make
their bed. Experts at the Sleep Council say the
average adult loses 285ml of fluid every night.
The mattress retailer And So to Bed recommends
leaving the bedclothes pulled back in the morning
to give the mattress a chance to breathe and for
moisture to evaporate. Still looks terrible though.
