Australian Working Stock Dog Magazine - June 2018

(Tuis.) #1
2018 is here and isn’t it lying by? he Australian Working
Stock Dog Magazine in the last 12 months has been very ac-
tive with fund-raising for mental health charities. Our initi-
ative was Working Dog Schools 4 Mental Health Awareness
where a number of working dog trainers donated their time
and knowledge in running the working dog schools. he
schools were very well received, and the total amount raised
that we donated to beyondblue was $62953.

Earlier this year Julie Turner approached us from Clermont
Kelpies to auction a few of her dog collars through our Face-
book page in an efort of raising funds for the Dolly’s Dream
Foundation. We took this a step further and opened up for
donations and were looded with ofers of help over a 48hr
period. Auctions Plus were contacted and they generously
ofered their services and platform for us to run the charity
auction through their website. he Dolly’s Dream charity
auction raised $33610. A combined efort of a few thousand
under $100,000 raised in 12 months is a mammoth efort
and I’d like to pass on my sincere gratitude to everyone that
has been involved in any way or form through both of the
initiatives. hank You!

he Australian Cow Dog Challenge held at Tamworth in
November 2017 was the highlight of my year. It was a very
successful event and this year they are going all out with the
biggest working dog event in Australia and if not the world.
here are three disciplines of dog trailing this year. Cattle,
3 sheep & yard dog. his week-long event will be phenom-
enal, and we hope to catch up with many of our readers at
Tamworth over the week.

he Australian Working Stock Dog Magazine has been go-
ing from strength to strength since its conception in 2013. It
has so much potential and we have made some great friends

over the years. he three ladies that have been the backbone
of the magazine are Zoe Crouch (editor), Annette Ross,
(design) and Kasie LoSurdo (design / print) Without these
ladies at the realm the magazine would not be the fantastic
publication it is today.

I work full time managing a beef research facility in north
QLD and juggling eforts between my own dogs, commu-
nity engagements and more importantly my family which
comprises of my wife Mandy and my two boys, Rylan (8),
and Hayden (6), leaves me with very little spare time at all
to enjoy those simple family times. My boys are now at that
age where they are demanding more of my time which is a
natural progression.

I have come to the hard decision to ofer the Australian
Working Stock Dog Magazine et al. oicially for sale via
expressions of interest. Whilst I wont be just throwing in
the towel, I really hope I can ind some genuine working
dog enthusiasts that would like to take the magazine to the
next level before the end of inancial year in 2019.

Don’t be worried, we will still be around for the next issue
and will work out a way forward if there isn’t any interest in
a purchase of the entirety of the magazine.
All the best for the winter months.

Best Regards
Wayne Flintham
