The log cabins that are speckled all over the High Country
are as much a part of the national identity as lamingtons and
wombats.
And they hold a place even closer to the hearts of those
Aussies who have wielded the keys to a 4WD over the last
60 years, as well as those powered by even less horsepower
in the years previous.
Make no mistake, these pioneering cabins are emblematic
of the freedom, the challenge, and the solace that comes
with any serious southern sojourn.
Over the following pages we thought we’d take a step
back and really gawk at these wooden waypoints, as well
as the work done by the volunteering offroaders who keep
them standing.
